DJ booth
A DJ booth brings together playback equipment, connections and monitoring. Learn what to confirm with the DJ and how to plan transitions between acts.
Confirm the connections
Ask what equipment the DJ will bring, what model is requested on site, and whether the mixer output is balanced XLR, TRS or RCA. Agree on the booth monitor, table space and safe cable access.
For shared bills
Confirm who provides playback and how inputs will switch between the DJ and other performers. Test the transition at soundcheck so the next act can start without an unexpected drop or jump in level.
Describe the handover as well as the setup
If a DJ follows a live band, send the equipment details and explain when the DJ can set up. Note whether they bring a controller, use equipment provided on site or need a particular mixer arrangement. Include the soundcheck or testing opportunity. The transition should be part of the running order, rather than a connection decision made after the band finishes.
Ask the DJ to confirm
- Equipment models, output connections and what they will bring.
- The working surface, booth-monitor request and any additional playback devices.
- Setup access, the handover plan and the person responsible for the next segment.
Before the event
Can I just request a standard DJ booth?
Describe the actual equipment and working space needed. “Standard” can mean different things to different performers, so confirm the details with the DJ and production team.
Does a booth enquiry include booking the DJ?
A production brief describes the technical setup. State separately whether you already have a DJ; neither the booth guide nor an artist archive listing confirms performer availability.
