Stage manager and show caller
Stage coordination and cue calling keep the programme moving. Define the roles, decision-making authority and technical contacts for your event.
Define the role for this event
A stage manager commonly coordinates activity around the stage, including performer readiness, entrances and changeovers. A show caller gives agreed cues to operators. One person may cover both roles on a small event, while a more complex programme may separate them. The title alone does not establish what is included, so describe the responsibilities in the event brief.
Give the team one route for changes
Identify who can approve a running-order change and how it reaches the sound, lighting and playback operators. The coordinator should know the current schedule, artist contacts and open production questions. Organisers, family members and presenters should use the agreed contact rather than issuing competing instructions directly to different operators.
Keep specialist responsibilities explicit
Stage coordination is not a substitute for venue operations, security, medical provision or specialist technical supervision. Name those responsibilities separately. Asking about coordination in an enquiry does not confirm that a particular staff member or role has been assigned.
