Playback
Playback is prerecorded audio or video used during an event. Plan the approved files, device, operator, start cues and handover to live performers.
Recorded material within a live programme
Playback is prerecorded material used as part of an event, such as entrance music, a dance track, an artist’s backing track or a presentation video. The production requirement includes more than the file itself: someone must supply the correct version, provide a suitable device and connection, and know when to start and stop it.
Create an approved file list
Give each item a clear name and associate it with a segment in the running order. Record the intended start point, ending and cue caller. Agree the file format and delivery method with the operator, and use material the organiser is authorised to provide. Confirm whether the artist brings a dedicated playback setup or expects the event team to operate it.
Test the real handover
Rehearse the actual file on the intended playback system, including any transition to live microphones or a DJ. Agree what happens if the material is unavailable or the programme changes; do not assume a link in a message is a tested backup.
