Confirm what applies to your sound system
Punjab’s official legal index lists the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015, and Lahore publishes a cultural and entertainment event NOC category. Start by asking the venue and relevant authority which sound permissions and conditions apply to the proposed event. Include whether the system is indoors or outdoors, what it will amplify and the proposed hours. The authority’s answer should be specific to that use. Hiring a PA system or engaging a DJ does not itself establish that permission has been obtained.
Ask about soundcheck as well as the performance
Give the venue separate times for equipment checks, rehearsal, guest arrival, the main programme and finishing. A long soundcheck can affect neighbouring spaces even when the advertised show is short. Ask whether the agreed operating hours cover each activity and whether any quieter periods must be observed. Keep the response with the event documents and brief the artist’s engineer as well as the house operator. If a soundcheck time changes, check the impact before sending an updated artist schedule.
Describe the neighbours and the audience area
During the site visit, mark nearby homes, classrooms, worship spaces, offices and other rooms using the property. Show the audience layout, speaker positions and open doors or windows on the plan. Ask the venue about known sound-sensitive boundaries and concurrent activities. These observations help the production team discuss placement, coverage and monitoring; they do not establish a legal measurement result. A speaker aimed away from one building can still produce sound elsewhere, so the complete site matters.
Put the actual sound conditions in writing
If a permit or venue condition specifies a sound limit, record the value, measurement method, measurement position, relevant times and who will assess it. Ask for clarification if any part is missing. Do not substitute a number found on another venue’s website, a phone-app reading or a rule from another jurisdiction. This guide publishes no blanket decibel limit or universal sound curfew. Conditions for a wedding, concert, conference and outdoor public gathering should be checked for the actual event.
Agree who can respond during the show
Choose an organiser contact and a production contact who can act on an instruction or concern. Explain how they will communicate with the host, artist engineer and venue manager, and who can pause playback or lower a system when required. Record the process in the show brief. Avoid a situation where several people independently change levels or promise different outcomes. If another supplier controls a separate speaker system, include that system and its operator in the same coordination plan.
Build a useful sound enquiry
Send the venue, date, audience estimate, programme, current rider or microphone list, proposed operating hours and the confirmed sound conditions. Include a simple plan and the venue’s technical contact. Mark permission questions that remain unresolved, and recheck them if the venue, schedule or equipment arrangement changes.
